Get out there…

| October 29, 2011 7:55 am

As our October Duck Soup night was dominated by rugby league and World Cup TV, it’s surprising that it will stand out as a ‘social’ highlight for me. I made a decision before I walked in to invite a couple of people to a Labour Weekend event I was attending and BOTH accepted that invitation.

We went offroading on 50cc scooters between Picton & Greymouth – totally out of my comfort zone but a fabulous opportunity to meet new friends and get to know others a little better.  The two Duck Soup guys I invited had a brilliant time and are both keen to do it all again next year.

I don’t think it matters WHAT the event is – it could be as simple as a movie or dinner – or more complicated (and expensive!) like the offroading challenge… the point is I did it and the social relationships I invested in really paid off.

Perhaps you could venture a little further than your normal social comfort zone and try something new….. check out www.itson.co.nz to see if an event takes your fancy and then start asking around for like-minded people to join you….

Roast Dinner tonight

| May 2, 2010 3:17 pm

I’ve had over 25 bookings for the roast dinner tonight so 623 are opening up the upstairs for us – there is plenty of room for anyone else who would like to join us for a yummy $10 roast meal before networking begins.

Happy Valentine’s Day from Duck Soup

| February 14, 2010 9:34 pm

I hope you’ve had a fabulous day and spoiled yourself in some way for Valentine’s Day.

If you’re feeling a little lonely, don’t compare yourself to other people. If you’re the type who imagines others secretly pointing at you and laughing at your single status, you’re spending way too much time measuring yourself against supposedly happy, snuggling couples. Remember: just because a person is partnered up on V-Day doesn’t necessarily mean that he or she is blissed out (or even remotely contented).

I know several people from the last Duck Soup Networking Night arranged to go out for a singles dinner together tonight – I hope you all had an entertaining evening. You’ll have to tell us all about it next time we meet up at 623 In The City on the first Sunday of March from 7.30pm.
